Are People Overreacting about Dying from the Coronavirus?

As of the 16th of April 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has killed 138,487 people worldwide. There are 2,081,969 confirmed cases worldwide. Some of that 2,081,969 people will most likely recover and survive, but if they don't, they may die. But is there such a high chance of dying?

According to the BBC, it is believed that the chances of you dying from the coronavirus are between 0.5% to 1%. Here are the mortality rates based on your age:

  • If you're a child under the age of 9, your mortality rate is 0.

  • Those who are between 10 to 39 years old have a mortality rate of 0.2%.

  • 40 to 49 year olds have a mortality rate of 0.4%.

  • If you're between 50 to 59 years old, the mortality rate is 1.3%.

  • People who are aged 60 to 69 years old have a mortality rate of 3.6%.

  • For the age group 70 to 79 years old, you have a mortality rate of 8%.

  • If you're an elderly person who is 80 years old or older, you have the highest mortality rate of 14.8% (although it's the highest out of all ages, it's still a low enough mortality rate).

As you can see, the chance of dying from a coronavirus infection is pretty low. So don't worry, stay safe and healthy, everyone!...
